Buying a used car in the UAE — FAQ

Clear, honest answers. Savvo uses the same ones when it helps you decide. Tap a question to open it.

What does GCC specs mean, and does it matter in the UAE?

GCC-spec cars are made for the Gulf. They have stronger cooling for the heat and the right settings for local fuel. They handle UAE summers better than American, Japanese, Chinese or European imports. They also keep their value better when you sell. Savvo shows the spec when the advert says it. It warns you when a car is an import or export-only.

How do I check if a used car was in an accident?

Ask for the service history and an RTA/Tasjeel inspection. Look at the gaps between panels, whether the paint matches, and the chassis. Savvo reads what the seller says, like “no accident” or “first owner”. It shows these as seller claims to confirm, never as checked facts. It tells you exactly what to check.

Is the price fair? How does Savvo know?

Savvo compares the asking price with real similar cars for sale in the UAE now. They have the same make, model and year, and similar km. Savvo shows if the price is below, at or above the market. It also shows how much room there is to ask for a lower price. It never shows AED 0. It never shows a monthly loan payment as the cash price.

How does the RTA ownership transfer work?

Both buyer and seller do the transfer at an RTA-approved centre, like Tasjeel. You need the Mulkiya (registration card) and Emirates IDs. You also need valid insurance in the new owner’s name. Before you pay, make sure all fines are paid. Also confirm the car has no bank loan still on it.

Should a mechanic check the car before I buy?

Yes, always. Savvo’s grade looks at the advert’s price, km and details compared with the market. It is not a mechanic’s check. Use Savvo’s step-by-step guide at the car. Then, before you pay, have a workshop not linked to the seller check it.

What is Savvo and is it free to use?

Savvo is an honest helper that protects people buying used cars in the UAE. It searches real adverts and grades them. It checks they are still online before you see them. It guides you step by step when you check a car. So anyone can buy with open eyes.
